ACIC-CBIT, under its mandate to support underserved and skill-based institutions, organized a Capacity Building Program at ITI Patancheru — a 3-day initiative in Innovation Mindset, Design Thinking & Entrepreneurship Readiness, in collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog. The program was designed to empower ITI trainees with an innovation-oriented approach, helping them connect their technical skills with real-world challenges and emerging opportunities in entrepreneurship and industry.
The Capacity Building Program at ITI Patancheru was crafted to bridge the gap between technical skill training and innovation-led thinking. Over 3 immersive days, trainees were introduced to:
| Day | Theme | Key Activities |
|---|---|---|
| DAY 1 | Orientation & Mindset Building | ACIC-CBIT Mission Intro • Design Thinking Overview • Empathy Mapping • Ice-Breakers • Role of ITI Graduates as Innovators |
| DAY 2 | Problem Identification & Idea Generation | Problem-Spotting Activity • Industry Pain Points • Root Cause Analysis • Group Brainstorming • Problem Statement Canvas |
| DAY 3 | Prototyping Awareness & Next Steps | Makerspace & Lab Overview • Prototype Grants & IPR Support • ACIC-CBIT Programs (GRIP, CIF, SIP) • Group Presentations • Feedback & Mentoring Invite |
Introduce ITI trainees to innovation, design thinking, and problem-solving, enabling them to approach challenges with creativity and analytical thinking.
Encourage students to identify real-world problems in their surroundings, workplaces, and communities that can be addressed through practical and technological solutions.
Build awareness about prototyping tools, Makerspace infrastructure, and the support ecosystem available at ACIC-CBIT, empowering them to transform ideas into workable prototypes.
Strengthen participants' confidence, communication skills, and overall readiness for both employment opportunities and entrepreneurial career pathways.
The 3-day program was structured around the globally recognised 5-stage Design Thinking framework — ensuring every session moved trainees progressively from empathy and problem understanding through to ideation, prototyping awareness, and testing through group presentations. Each stage was mapped to on-ground activities at ITI Patancheru, making abstract innovation concepts tangible and directly relevant to the trainees' technical backgrounds and community contexts.
DAY 1 — Orientation & Mindset Building
The ACIC-CBIT team introduced the mission of ACIC-CBIT and the importance of innovation in today's
skill-based economy. Trainees were oriented on design thinking, empathy, and the role of ITI
graduates in solving practical problems at workplaces and in communities. Through interactive
discussions, ice-breakers, and real-life examples, students began to see themselves as potential
innovators and change-makers.
DAY 2 — Problem Identification & Idea Generation
Day 2 focused on identifying problems and generating ideas. Students listed common issues they
observe in workshops, industries, and their local areas — related to safety, efficiency, tools,
energy, or daily convenience. Working in small groups, they discussed root causes and prepared
simple canvases describing their problem statements and initial ideas.
DAY 3 — Prototyping Awareness & Next Steps
Trainees were introduced to how ideas can be converted into prototypes, and how ACIC-CBIT supports
this journey. Sessions covered Makerspace and lab facilities, prototype grants, and IPR support.
Teams shared their problem statements and solution ideas in group presentations — receiving expert
feedback and mentoring invitations to continue their innovation journey.
Trainees gained clarity on how their technical skills can be used to build innovative solutions, not just perform routine tasks.
Several relevant problem statements were documented and can be further developed into projects or prototypes with ACIC-CBIT support.
The program deepened the collaboration between ACIC-CBIT and ITI Patancheru, aligning with ACIC-CBIT's strategic focus on outreach and capacity building.
Many trainees expressed interest in continuing the journey through ACIC-CBIT's programs and visits to the Makerspace.
Interested trainees from the program can continue their innovation journey through the following ACIC-CBIT pathways:
